new layout and sketch artist @ sbch!
real life has been a whirlwind and incredibly crazy, so i apologize for not blogging more! i have been busy being creative, though, so here's the latest:

mufasa, 6x12
this layout is about lucky, one of my dogs, and part of the reason i've been so busy lately has to do with him! he had to go to the vet because he has allergies, and a flare-up caused him to break out on his back and tail, which isn't fun. :( the vet decided his long fur would probably just irritate his skin more, so he got a haircut! when my parents and i left the doctor's office and entered the waiting room, everyone laughed at him! poor thing. he looks like a lion now, and if you remember the lion king, simba's dad is mufasa, hence the title of this layout. lucky's doing a lot better, by the way, so i felt compelled to scrap this little moment in life.
ok, here's some HUGE news: i entered the sketch artist contest at scrapbooker's club house and WON! i can't believe it. it is so amazing to be able to design sketches and layouts for this talented and extremely friendly group of ladies based in canada. i posted my first sketch on their forum, so you'll definitely want to head over and join and show me what you can do! ;)
the blog and its parent site, telerobotic.net, are getting a definite revamp; i just have to figure out what direction i want the layout to go in as i'd like both the blog and overall site to match. now that i have actual time to sit down at the computer after a couple days, we'll see what i can come up with.
talk to you soon!

a new challenge blog and some things!
let's see, first thing's first: a little bird told me is a brand spankin' new challenge blog run by some very creative scandinavian ladies. i absolutely adore their blog layout and am so impressed by the design team's entries for the current challenge, which is simply to use a lot of color! here's my favorite layout. maybe it's just me, but i've found that europeans are a lot more liberal when it comes to their use of colors, not just in scrapping, but in every art form out there. it's so inspiring, and being someone who loves bright colors myself, i can't wait to get started on the challenge! :)
an added bonus is the awesome prizes they're giving away as part of their opening celebration:

this kit is beautiful! i love how whimsical and colorful it is. perfect.

maya road sheers are also up for grabs!
and the prize for this month's challenge winner is a scarlet lime kit! how awesome is that?
so get on over there and enter! while you're at it, challenge yourself. i've been looking for awesome challenge blogs that really suit my personality, both as a person and as a scrapper, and albtm is definitely one of them.
next, how was everyone's nsd '09? mine was awesome. i participated in some fun challenges over at SiStv and had a blast. i even ended up winning stacey fike's challenge!
i also participated in corinne's and jan's challenges to scrap a non-person photo and to get messy. the layout i came up with is going to be part of my chipboard album project (that i hope to finish soon, sheesh), and i can honestly say it's one of the more challenging things i've done. i didn't go heavy on embellishments, just painted and distressed a lot, and for me, that's pretty new! i'm really excited about how it turned out, though, and i love my zune.
alright, i'm hoping to blog with some more creations soon! see you then. :)

SO proud of this
sometimes when i scrapbook and i finish a layout that took me MONTHS to put together (from coming up with the sketch to being unsure how to go about executing it), i'm reminded of just how happy it makes me to create something. there is such a sheer thrill in being able to say "i made this. me. it was my idea and i did it!" that i almost feel like a little kid again, and i love it. it's the best feeling in the world.
recently, i had that feeling when i finished this layout:
i had been stuck on it for weeks (and it looked a lot plainer than it does now during that time) until lucy encouraged a few SISters to use embellishments... and lots of them! to say the least, that gave me the push i needed to really bring this layout into fruition and i am so happy with how it turned out that i can barely describe.
i took those photos of my cat, lil buddy, in october, and didn't get a chance to scrap them till about january, so this layout has been on my mind for that long. usually, i get distracted or frustrated and move on to other projects and leave what i'm not wholly satisfied with unfinished, but in this case, i knew this layout had the potential to be great and become my favorite (which it very much is), so i didn't want to give up. sis saves the day again!
next on my agenda... i don't know. i still want to paint but i've been itching to get outside and take some photographs lately, too. that's my life! i always jump the gun and get ambitious about wanting to do everything at once.
on another note, debee campos's blog is probably one of the most inspiring i've ever come across. that girl can scrap.
i'm also really thinking about creating my own "line" of embellishments and going at it experimentally because i have a lot of means to create them but not a whole lot of money to buy them at the moment... plus, talk about artistic endeavor and experience! you can't go wrong with either of those.

i'm really doing it this time. i'm sticking with a blog, i swear!
my greatest creative achievement as of late has been finishing an altered altoid tin in about two days. it's been a while since i got something done that fast, and i'm pretty sure this was the mojo boost i needed. also, i find it incredibly hard to get motivated when it's dreary outside, and lately the days have been sunny, so that's helping things, too.
the inside of the tin is filled with bits and pieces i've collected and stored in shoe boxes... at this point, i feel like it's time to scrap these things (or at least paste them in glue books), so i started with this tin. these were some of my favorite bits from the past few years. i'm ocd about collecting things like ticket stubs and receipts!
in other news, i think telerobotic needs an overhaul and redesign. i've got some ideas, but it's a matter of sitting down and figuring everything out. always the hardest part! i don't want anything too flashy (no flash... literally) because i like the diy, homemade look of portfolios. the idea that simpler is better has really been sticking with me lately, and i think it's because i'm not as interested in web design as i used to be -- it's more about graphic design and imagery and highlighting work rather than all the bells and whistles that can embellish it. i do love the wonders of css, though, and how easy it is to customize a design with a single stylesheet.
let's see what i come up with.
also, this is a reminder to myself to paint more. i can't remember the last painting i finished (other than homemade patterned paper for scrapbooking), and that's really bothering me! it's so relaxing to brush paint over something.

finally getting around to this...
well, since i've been a registered user since december of last year, i figure maybe it's time to start posting in this thing. blogs are pretty fun, even if i always forget to update them! i'll be using this one to talk about daily life, artistic ventures, and of course, telerobotic, my portfolio. i need to start documenting the creative process! sometimes i wonder where my brain goes. if that rambling mess is enticing enough, stay tuned for more to come.
